The thought of reusable/washable period pads to me, have always been…EW. Who would ever want to do that?! Period cups? Double EW! who would ever want to do that?? Well…a girl can change her mind right? Since starting IVF and having a failed IVF cycle, I started to second guess my reproductive health. There are tons of articles around that talk about how “toxic” tampons are, pads, etc. studies have found pesticide residue, parabens and phthalates linked to hormone disruption, antibacterial chemicals like triclosan, and various carcinogens including styrene and chloroform. With all of that said, I was really excited when the company HighOH reached out to me to test out and review their products. #AD. They sent me their period starter pack to try. I was super skeptical at the thought of carrying this around. The shipping was very fast, and the customer serivice team answer my questions very quickly. They also provided a video on how to use the pads, which in my opinion was very user friendly. The pads are infused with Charcoal, which help contain and deflect odor. I can honestly say, that is true. There are no toxic chemicals which is healthier for my reporductive system.
I used these for all 6 days of my period. One thing I can say, they were very comfortable. They snapped securely on my underwear and stayed put! They didn’t feel like a diaper, and they did when they needed to do. They were easy to wrap up, easy to wash. Definitely does take a little bit more care than just opening a package and throwing it away when done. But its worth it for better reproductive health.
Per the pictures above, they fold and snap easily, and the company provides a waterproof bag for your to store them in, inside your purse when they are ready to be washed! Now, the only thing I would suggest with the company would be to include a mesh washing machine bag as well. In my case, my husband does the laundry, so I had to make a special arrangement so that he didn’t do this particular load. If I had a mesh bag that would conceal the contents but also allow for them to be throw in the wash, it would have been perfect!
The pads are made really well with “leak proof” technology. The bottom side is waterproof, so its very safe even for white pant days! Plus, think of all the money you will save, not buying pads, as well no longer needing to run to a store during social distancing for your menstrual essentials.
